European embedded computer company acquires rugged enclosure maker Carlo Gavazzi

LUSTENAU, Austria, 2 April 2009. Embedded computer specialist System Industrie Electronic AG (S.I.E. AG) in Lustenau, Austria, has acquired rugged enclosure maker Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions Inc. in Brockton, Mass., and has changed Gavazzi's name to S.I.E. Computing Solutions Inc.

The former Carlo Gavazzi Computing will continue with the same management, have the same headquarters in Brockton, Mass., and continue to provide embedded computing and electronic packaging solutions such as VME backplane technology for military applications, as well as for industrial and telecommunications solutions. S.I.E. Computing Solutions also will continue to provide serial I/O, and PCI system expansion.

S.I.E. Computing Solutions will continue the Carlo Gavazzi tradition in providing military embedded technology such as embedded processor solutions, military embedded systems, and VME embedded solutions. All products are manufactured in the United States and comply with VITA, PICMG, and PCI-SIG standards. Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions had been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Carlo Gavazzi AG electronics company in Steinhausen, Switzerland.

S.I.E. AG, a provider of computer hardware and embedded systems, bought substantially all assets of Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions. "While S.I.E. AG's proven capabilities in the medical and securities industries will strengthen our presence in those markets, our commitment to our core markets, such as military, will remain strong," says Chris Boutilier, president of S.I.E. Computing Solutions.

"The integration of Computing Solutions into S.I.E. AG will allow us to offer the industry's broadest array of embedded solutions for a wide range of applications, and to expand our worldwide opportunities for growth," says Udo Filzmaier, the S.I.E. AG chief executive officer.

In addition to Boutilier, the executive staff of S.I.E. Computing Solutions consists of Mark F. Sullivan, chief financial officer; Chuck Barresi, vice president of sales; Jessica Isquith, vice president of corporate marketing; Steve Corbesero, vice president of engineering; and Jim Tierney, vice president of government systems.
